What do Schopenhauer, Baccarat and Arturo Fuente Opus X all have in common?
They are all imbued with excellence and make for exquisite company - they are also all great tools of reflection.
Many of you will know that Cigar Letters has long been an admirer of Arturo Fuente - naturally, it is time to delve into the Opus X line.
Arturo Fuente Opus X PerfecXion 888

Aesthetically and in experience, the Opus X PerfecXion 888 is entirely elegant.
Yet for its slender elegance, it is reminiscent of a Napoleonic cannon.
Its small ring gauge (44) packs a powerful direct hit of spice and tones of mint.
Much like an aged dame, the PerfecXion 888 demands respect; not merely due to its elegance and strength, but rather due to the clear wisdom she has to depart on those who experience her.
The smoke is far from dense and merges swiftly with the air upon release.
It is undoubtedly a quality cigar. There is no mistaking that.
Elegant and fantastic, a cigar for the refined spice lovers.
One feels like an intellectual through osmosis, soaking up the wisdom this cigar holds.
That being said, one does require a certain mood to smoke the Arturo Fuente Opus X PerfecXion 888; for you will not be permitted to fade into a daze with this cigar in hand.
I would love to try this cigar in a larger ring gauge to see what happens to the refined Napoleonic spiced canon once it is unleashed in full glory.
Yet, for all the compliments I have thrown the PerfecXion 888, for all its beauty and power, I recognise that it is not for me.
Whilst it served its purpose wonderfully, gratitude and reflection flooded the system, I was unable to sit into it, as the canon kept firing - Churchill may have had a field day with this cigar. That is the beauty of honesty.
If you enjoy full bodied cigars, my guess is that you will seriously enjoy this refined cigar.
Personally, I will continue to reach for the somewhat milder Hemingway and Gran Reserva collections of Arturo Fuente.
I am extremely curious to hear your thoughts and experiences of the Opus X line, do hit reply and let me know.
Until next time.
Yours truly,
The Cigar Love
From The Archive
In 1995, Arturo Fuente did something many believed impossible.
They produced a cigar made entirely from Dominican tobacco - wrapper included, otherwise known as the Fuente Fuente Opus X collection.
Until then, the finest wrappers were thought to belong exclusively to Cuba. The soil, the climate, the tradition - all pointed there.
The Opus X challenged that status quo.
Grown at Château de la Fuente in the Dominican Republic, it became the first Dominican puro of its kind - bold, full-bodied, and unapologetically distinct from the smoother, more restrained Fuente lines that came before it.
