In Todays Letter...
A New Client
The first big win of the year arrived this week, a new client out of Geneva, Switzerland.
This could mean only one thing… time for a quality cigar.
Ordering a cab, I ushered my associate in as we headed to the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge.
Upon arriving at the Edward Sahakian cigar lounge, my associate and I wasted no time in settling into the leather upholstery.
The sommelier handed us the menu, but I already knew which cigar would stamp this day.
Nevertheless I browsed the menu, a fine selection.
“Two Cohiba Robustos please.”
The sommelier returned as swiftly as he departed - arriving with the goods in hand.
My associate is new to cigars, I had to ensure he got the full experience.
As the first draw took hold, we floated off to the wonderful world of Cuban cigars.
How would one describe the Cohiba Robusto?
It has a very distinctive taste.
It is a steady cigar.
Akin to a bear, if such a comparison could be made.
It is like a family member you would be proud of.
Like someone you would be glad to have beside you during tough times.
It is a cigar you would be pleased married your offspring - if it was human of course…
There is a certain justice and fairness to it.
The smoke density and texture does not touch that of the Trinidad or H. Upmann, but the notes, the flavour, that is where the Cohiba Robusto forms a league of its own.
A steady, respectable cigar, strong but crackly - the notes are jumpy, in a similar manner to how wood burns, or like popping mouth candy - without the sweetness… (has a stranger description ever been given? Remember this next time you have the pleasure of smoking a Cohiba Robusto, you’ll see what I mean).
I completely understand why Cohiba holds its unique place in the cigar world.
I imagine most cigar smokers would easily be able to identify that they were smoking a Cohiba blindfolded for that very reason - the distinct notes and flavours.
The Cohiba Robusto has presence, you cannot forget you are smoking it, nor can your thoughts linger far from its notes.
There is something highly respectable about this cigar; then again most things that are steady and consistent - especially when imbued with qualities that are not commonly found - gain our respect.
Next time you need a strong companion to steady and center yourself, look no further than the Cohiba Robusto.
It is worth smoking, as you will certainly discover a thing or two about not just the cigar, but also yourself.
Until next time.
Yours truly,
The Cigar Lover
